    We must have privacy to keep societies humane. Where it lacks privacy, surveillance unfolds. Privacy is for our dignity, security and autonomy. And even more importantly, privacy is needed to prevent what Edvard Snowden describes as mass aggregation of information whose potential for societal control and human manipulation exceeding not just the restraints of laws but the imagination.
